About Us

About Us

Kaupapa Māori

Informed by the kaupapa of the providers , our existence is underpinned in the knowledge that traditional Māori methods of care result in achieving better health outcomes and wellbeing for our Whānau

Availability and Serviceability

Our mission is two-fold. Firstly, Hauora Hub aims to showcase the wide range of Māori health services, organisations, GP’s, and programmes available to whānau. Secondly, we endeavour to make understanding and accessing these services easier, so that the journey to health and wellbeing is more timely, appropriate and responsive for those who need it.

Navigation of Services

Whether you are seeking health care for yourself, your whānau or alongside urihaumate (patients), Hauora Hub is your guide to navigating the constellation of hauora-focused services available in the Waitemata District region.

Whanaungatanga

Connection with whānau

Whanaungatanga is an important underpinning of the services we provide. Care is about building an immediate, yet enduring, connection with you while you are on your care journey with us no matter how long.

Your whānau are invited to join in your care at any time. Whānau in this context is any support person or network that you deem necessary to your wellbeing.

Mana Motuhake

Self determination

When Whānau and Māori Health Care Providers themselves are self-governing, better health outcomes follow. Mana Motuhake is about promoting opportunities for Māori to exercise their independence and autonomy to advance their own wellness.

Tikanga Māori

The correct customs and values embedded in Māori culture

Understanding, acknowledging and respecting wider cultural needs and expectations by complying with tikanga Māori throughout all parts of health system brings out effective restoration and healing.

Whakapapa

Whakapapa is the foundation of recovery
for it connects us with who we are and where we come from.

Understanding and being connected to the past is significant for the present and the future. While whakapapa has many dimensions in the context of wellbeing, it pertains to genealogy and our connection to our tūpuna too, helping define both our place in the world and the obligations we have to those who come after us.

Kaitiakitanga

An obligation to protect our taonga and resources

Kaitiakitanga promotes the relationship between people and our natural environment as well as the protection of customary knowledge. Kaitiakitanga embraces the spiritual and cultural guardianship of our land and our people, enabling us to anticipate a healthy future for all.
